Guests from across Northern Ireland, recently attended firmus energy’s tenth birthday celebrations at the Europa hotel.  During the gala evening, an auction and raffle were held on behalf of the company’s nominated charity, Shine, raising a fantastic £4,104.69 for the organisation.

Michael Scott, managing director of firmus energy, commented:  “It was very important for us to mark ten years in business by thanking the wider firmus team.  It has been an eventful first decade in business and we look forward to the next ten years!  It was particularly gratifying that, as we celebrated, we were able to raise significant funds for this special charity.  I would like to thank everyone for their generosity.”

Shine supports sufferers of Spina Bifida and hydrocephalus and their families and was selected by firmus energy’s CSR committee as their charity of the year in early 2015.

Antrim-based firmus energy connected its first customer, Michelin, in 2005 and since then the company has invested more than £90 million in its network, laying more than 1000km of pipes across Northern Ireland.  Along the route of the pipeline, more than 90% of major industrial businesses have converted to natural gas with firmus energy now servicing more than 76,000 commercial and residential customers across the province, with around 4000 new connections each year.

Michael added:  “It was a very special celebratory evening and I was delighted that, by way of this event, we are able to thank many of the people who have supported us on our journey.

“firmus energy is a vital contributor to the Northern Ireland economy and in addition to our own 90 employees, we also provide employment for more than 300 contractors, installers and agencies.

“As well as looking back at how far we have taken natural gas in Northern Ireland, marking our tenth birthday allowed us to highlight how we plan to develop our network and give back to our communities in the next ten years and beyond.”
