firmus energy charity of the year

As part of their commitment to nominated charity of the year, ‘Shine’, which helps those affected by Spina Bifida and hydrocephalus, eleven members of firmus energy are set to take on the Causeway Coast Marathon, in a bid to raise vital funds for the organisation.

Causeway Coast Marathon

The Causeway Coast Marathon, which takes place on 26 September, is hailed as one of the most scenic marathons in the world and has something to offer runners of every skill level, with a 60km ultra marathon, a 10km run and marathon and half marathon options. Races start in Portballintrae and travel 13 miles along the north coast to the half-way point at the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge before those taking part in the full marathon turn back to complete the distance.

Delighted to be helping Shine NI

Angeline Murphy of firmus energy is looking forward to adding to funds for Shine, saying: “We are delighted to be helping Shine in all the wonderful work they do here in Northern Ireland.  Across the UK they are a community of 75,000 families, friends and professional  staff helping to provide information on these conditions. They do a great job providing support for anyone living with the condition and to carers and professional health and social care staff involved in treating those affected.  All of the money we raise will be spent in caring for those affected in Northern Ireland.

“We are really looking forward to the challenge of the race in September. We are doing different events and I hope to complete the half marathon. Everyone is in training as we speak, getting ready for the big day. It’s a lovely part of the country, so we are hoping for a dry day to bring out the crowds and so we can all enjoy the great views as we run. There is some superb scenery with wonderful beaches, cliffs and bays that will be enjoyed en route on the big day by the firmus energy competitors taking part.‘’

Spina Bifida is a condition where the spine does not develop properly, leaving a gap in the spine. Hydrocephalus is a build-up of excess fluid in the brain. Formed in 1966, Shine has a vision that values the contribution and celebrates the lives of people living with these conditions.
