With a dedicated team proactively managing our CSR activity, 2015 was a busy year of fundraising and volunteering for the firmus energy team with an opportunity for all staff to become involved.
£5,800 has been raised for Shine
Following consultation across the company, we nominated Shine which supports families and individuals across Northern Ireland who are affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus, a buildup of fluid on the brain, as our charity of the year. Through regular activities , including participation in the Causeway Coast marathon, company-wide gatherings, employee initiatives and funds raised at an event to celebrate our 10th birthday, almost £5,800 has been raised. This will be matched pound for pound by firmus energy and once we have completed all our activities, we expect to be writing a cheque for an amount in excess of £12,000. We couldn’t have raised such a fantastic sum without the help of colleagues, friends and family and we know that this will make a tremendous difference to the work being carried out by this charity.
Improving the local environment
firmus energy’s ‘warming communities’ campaign where we work with schools and local groups to improve the environment for the benefit of the whole area, has continued to thrive. We even had the opportunity to revisit Riverside Special School to freshen the work we had previously carried out in the grounds making the area even more welcoming for pupils, families, teachers and visitors.
Partnering with McNicholas & SPAR
Christmas can be a difficult time of the year for many people particularly for those spending the day alone or perhaps depending on the generosity of others to enjoy a Christmas dinner. Our CSR committee wanted to make a difference to as many people as possible and teamed up with our construction partner McNicholas and Q Radio to offer shopping vouchers for charities, community and church groups who are throwing open their doors this festive season to bring cheer to even more people. In conjunction with this, we partnered with Spar for an online promotion for local groups to win vouchers to support those working with vulnerable people during December.
firmus energy’s CSR strategy allows all employees to become involved in our activities and ranges from organising events to buying goods our annual cake sale. We have a ‘can do’ attitude and with the support of everyone on our 90-strong team, we hope to continue to make a difference to our local communities.
