firmus energy ‘cares’ with customer scheme

Antrim-based company, firmus energy, supplies natural gas to more than 69,000 homes and businesses across Northern Ireland and is bringing this more practical and cost effective fuel to hundreds more people every month.

Natural gas offers many benefits including its convenience, cost-effectiveness and efficiency. It is popular as it never runs out and customers don’t have to worry about reordering fuel as well as providing more controllable cooking and instant hot water. However, firmus understands that the priority for most households in NI is cutting fuel bills.

Michael Scott, general manager for firmus energy said, "We know that energy costs are a serious issue for most households across NI and at firmus energy we are genuinely committed to helping to tackle fuel poverty. Natural gas is already one of the cheapest ways to heat your home but as all of our employees receive energy efficiency training, we are able to advise our customers on ways to help reduce their energy bills."

In addition, firmus energy offers further support for customers who are older, have a disability or are chronically ill. "We strive to offer all our customers a first-class service but recognise that some will require a little extra help. We provide a range of services, under the voluntary and confidential firmuscare scheme, to look after the differing needs of our older or more vulnerable customers," says Michael.

"In conjunction with Bryson Energy, we work with our firmuscare customers and offer free and impartial energy advice, including help on how to use their heating system efficiently, a review of their current energy bills and referral to any energy efficiency schemes for which they may be eligible. They may also be offered a free boiler service as well as a benefit entitlement check and practical assistance in reading their meter and understanding their bills."

While natural gas can significantly lower household fuel bills, many people may find it difficult to afford the cost of converting to a new efficient heating system.

"With this in mind, we have introduced a number of grant schemes that can provide up to £1800 to help with the cost of installing natural gas and a package of up to £800 for home insulation." concluded Michael.
