Over 300 competitors triumph in firmus energy super five series meet

Despite a drop in temperature and wetter conditions than the opening event, the second track and field meeting of the firmus energy Super Five Series still attracted more than 300 young athletes from across Northern Ireland to come out and compete at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast.

Organised by Lagan Valley Athletics Club, this is the largest youth athletics series in NI. It is open to able and non-abled bodied participants, and is designed to encourage beginners to come out and ‘have a go’ at track and field events, as well as helping to develop serious global competitors and future local Olympians.

Bryan McCorkall from Lagan Valley Athletics Club commented: "I would like to thank our hardy competitors and their parents, who turned up in spite of the dreary weather. The earlier rain certainly didn’t dampen the athletes’ spirits as they gave it their all and I would like to commend everyone who took part.

"As we are supported this year by natural gas supplier, firmus energy, we are able to let even more people know about the Super Five Series so we hope that this will be the best year yet for the events. firmus energy has helped us to develop our online registration system and this is now open for the next event in the series, which will take place on Thursday 26 June.

"Anyone aged from eight years old is able to take part, ranging from first-timers and beginners through to serious competitors. It would be great to see even more young people from across the province join the series to represent their area."

For more information, please visit www.laganvalleyac.co.uk or the firmus energy Super5 facebook page where participants can now pre-register for the next event on 26 June at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast. The cost for each event is £3 and can be paid on the night.
